Ratheon / Raymarine ST60 Wind Transducer
Tom Weaver
My wind vane has stopped moving. My anemometer has triangular cups. I have searched online for a replacement and have found a service kit which includes only the cups and wind vane with balance weight. Trouble is, since the current wind vane is not moving, I doubt just replacing the vane will correct the problem as it seems to be internal.
My wind transducer is the early version sold with the ST60 and a direct replacement is not available (that I know of). Later, the ST60 was sold with a newer transducer and it's replacement is available. My questions: Is the newer transducer a plug-n-play model which will replace the base receptacle? Will the receptacle need to be replaced too? Has anyone replaced this and can provide tips/info? Thank You, Tom Weaver |

I have the same problem and my understanding is there are no replacement parts available for the ST60 (and haven’t been for many years) and you basically have to start over. I’m starting over with Garmin rather than Raymarine, based largely on the poor support I’ve received from Raymarine.

I have used them to replace my LCD's on my chart plotter and my ST6001 + auto pilot. They may be able to help you out. They are easy to deal with and are fast, especially compared to Raymarine service. Let us know if Seawire is able to help you out. Steve S/V Independence San Francisco, CA C-400 #284

Mine stopped moving. I brought it down. The cups can be removed with an allen wrench. There is a ball bearing behind the cups that gets James with spider webs. There is a utube video by Patrick Childres showing him fixing one Sent from my Galaxy -------- Original message -------- From: orion320@... I don't know if this is the kind of solution that appeals to you but Ebay currently has several ST60 wind transducers for sale both new and used. The new prices are...well, spendy.

Defender does sell replacement cups and wind vane for the older model.

From what I’ve learned, this old model was actually the wind transducer for the ST50 and was sold with early models of the ST60. I called Raymarine tech support and they cannot tell me if the newer model transducer will just plug-n-play as a replacement.
If it will not plug-n-play then the wind transducer wiring and receptacle will have to be replaced.

Raymarine has adopted the MicroSoft Windows approach to product support...
"You have a what model?" "Sorry...We no longer support that product" "You should probably upgrade" Planned obsolescence. |

I just replaced my "wind wand" yesterday. I bought it on-line for about $200. I bought it here: https://www.imarineusa.com/RaymarineR28170.aspx The box is on the boat, I can get details later. It was a simple unplug the old unit, plug in the new. Works great now.
Hope this helps.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you guys are talking about. You can buy a brand new Raymarine wind transducer, and it is compatible with the old Raytheon/Raymarine systems. The cable is included with the sensor, and keep it as a spare in case the old one gets squashed when stepping the mast, but otherwise isn't needed. Follow the instructions, though, as I remember something about removing an O ring somewhere when I replaced my transducer. It's an easy enough procedure that can be done from a bosun's chair.
On my boat, I've replaced all the original electronics EXCEPT the cable in the mast to the wind transducer, the plug at the masthead, and the depth sounder. So, yes, I'm pretty sure it's plug and play. You might be successful in cleaning your old sensor... sometimes a spider web gets in there and gums it up. My new sensor, however, has worked way better than the old one for several years. Good luck! -- Jeff Bird S/V Priorities C400 #53 Milwaukee, WI mysailingfix.com |

Jeff, until today, no one could tell me if the newer transducer could be a simple “unscrew the old and install the new”. I was trying to ascertain if replacing the wiring and receptacle was necessary. Not even Raymarine support could tell me the answer. I
knew the newer model transducer was compatible with my instruments, but didn’t know if rewiring was necessary.
Thanks for the additional confirmation!
Regards,
Tom Weaver

Unfortunately the idiots at Raymarine never thought to transfer you to someone that COULD answer your question.
