High Water Temp Alarm
Morgan Barrieau
I am having an intermittent issue with my high water temp alarm (Yanmar 4JH3E). It randomly goes off. Sometime it just beeps for a few seconds, other times it stays on for several minutes or more then goes off. I can go for long stretches and never hear it. The temp gauge appears to be working just fine and is in line with my laser thermometer when I take manual readings. Occasionally, when the alarm goes off, I can turn on the blower and that causes the alarm to stop (not always the case). I have recently replaced the mixing exhaust elbow, the coolant is new this year, and water is flowing out of the exhaust. This issue has been going on for the past two years and I can't seem to find the issue. I just ordered a new sender from Catalina Direct (should be here in a few days). Any thoughts from the group? Thanks for the help! This group has been an incredible resource. Morgan Barrieau S/V Altitude 254 Boston, MA |

Morgan,
That sounds more like an electrical problem, rather than a temperature problem. Have you tried taking apart each electrical connection (both at the engine end and at the panel end), cleaning the contacts, and then re-attaching? Pay special attention to the ground connections. Thanks, Tom! I will give it a try and see if that fixes the problem.

Years ago we had that same problem. Ours turned out to be a bad sensor. The engine was not overheating.

Gary Harkins They have made the decision to cancel ODRAM for this year. The increase in COVID-19 cases in Michigan was the killer. I still plan to do the ride with a couple of other riders.
